The Pawling Central School District is committed to providing nutritionally balanced and fulfilling meals that are an essential part of each student's academic day. Our Food Services team prioritizes creating healthy, appealing meals that energize students and support their learning.
For the 2023 and 2024 school years, we are proud to be a 30% New York State (NYS) Certified Agriculture & Markets school district. This distinction reflects our commitment to incorporating locally sourced ingredients, supporting New York farmers, and enhancing the quality of our meal offerings.
Our program also features global menu options to introduce students to diverse cultural cuisines, broadening their palates and enhancing their appreciation for foods from around the world.
Free Meal Program for 2024-2025
We are pleased to announce that all students enrolled in Pawling Central School District will receive free breakfast and lunch meals during the 2024-2025 school year. This initiative is made possible by the USDA’s expansion of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which allows participating schools to offer meals at no cost to all students. No additional paperwork or eligibility criteria are required for families to access this benefit.
With these initiatives, Pawling Central School District ensures that each child has access to nutritious meals, supporting their overall well-being and academic success.

About Pawling Food Service
The Pawling Food Service Department is proud to participate in the USDA's School Breakfast Program and the Nation School Lunch Program which are administered by the Child Nutrition Offices within the New York State Education Department. Through these programs we are able to receive funding through student participation based on the number of meals served to Pawling students. It is the food service department's goal to utilize our state and federal funding by maximizing quality, local ingredients on our menus as often as possible. It is because of the Pawling community, and the choice students and families make to enjoy school meals, that allows us to continue to make quality and creative improvements each school year.
Pawling Schools has been certified by The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets in the 30% New York State Initiative. During the 2023-2024 school year, The Pawling Central School District was committed to continuing the drive to purchase and serve more local and NYS grown and certified food throughout our lunch menus. This effort also gains us additional special funding to offset some of the higher costs associated with small farmers, businesses, and processors. It is an ongoing initiative that Pawling will strive to meet and continue with year after year. In order to become certified and receive the special funding, at least 30% of all food served for lunch must be purchased from NYS grown and certified farmers, businesses, and producers. These items are specified on our lunch menus by bold print. Not featured on our daily menus are many daily fruit and vegetable options that also come from local and NYS farms. We also exclusively serve Hudson Valley Fresh milk with all school meals. We're proud of the accomplishments the Pawling Food Service Department has been able to set into a new standard year after year.
How can you continue to support the Pawling Food Service Department? Since the district was able to offer free meals to all students, our previous "free and reduced lunch forms" have changed. Much of the districts funding, both the food service department and the overall district, can be evaluated by these free and reduced statuses. Our updated household income form is now available on our district website and in each school building. Filling out these forms can entitle you to other school benefits as well as contribute to the district receiving funding based on our overall eligibility status average. Please consider completing these household forms in effort to keep necessary funding in the Pawling District.
