8:00 - 8:30 - Enjoy a bowl of authentic Stone Soup Featuring Camille Ludington reading the original The Legend of Stone Soup, by Marcia Brown
To share in the tradition of the legend of Stone Soup, please bring a canned good which will be donated to the Pawling Resource Center.
The Community Dessert Table was such a hit last year, we’re continuing it this year! So, if you can, please bring a nut free dessert to share after the soup!
Register for TWO 45 minute workshops. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult in the workshop room, a great opportunity for family members to do things together.
Please register early as space and supplies for some workshops are limited.
A school bus will be at Pawling Elementary School at 5:30pm to provide transportation for any individuals or families who need transportation to Pawling Middle School.
The bus will leave Pawling Middle School at 8:30pm for the return trip.
Stone Soup Workshop Descriptions 2020
Unless noted workshops do require children under the age of 14 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the individual workshop. The event is intended to provide a bonding experience over shared interests.
Calligraphy – For ages 12 and up.
Host: Caroline Quentin - This workshop will introduce you to the wonderful art of lettering and calligraphy. We will go through some essential fonts and proper usage of a calligraphy pen as well as invitation and letter formatting. We look forward to having you here!

Slime is squishy, fun, and educational when guided! Learn the recipe for Cloud slime, a fluffy slime with a bumpy and poofy texture. Customize your slime with colors and scents. This program is great for beginners or slime experts looking to try a new recipe. Smocks will be provided but participants should be prepared for a little bit of mess!
Clay Making Workshop -Bilingual - Limited Seating - Sign up early Fee $2.00 Suitable for all ages. CLAYMAKING IS NOW FULL AND CLOSED FOR ADDITIONAL REGISTRATIONS
Host: Cherie Ingraham - Clay is a way back to nature. In this clay making workshop sponsored by The Chuckie Goodnight Foundation for The Environment, you'll be creating a Red Fox that will be surprisingly realistic. No experience necessary.
Crocheting Clinic – No Fee unless you need a crocheting hook. Suitable for all ages.
Host – Courtney Sheeran- Get help, brush up your skills, learn some new stitches (double-single stitch), learn to make intricate projects as well as some super simple techniques. Bring your own crochet hooks and yarn. We also will have plenty of yarn on hand if needed.
CrossFit Kids - For all children ages 3-17 years old,
Host Keith Yungel This workshop introduces children to the fundamental techniques and concepts of CrossFit in a way that is fun, exciting, educational and always leaves them wanting more. The session will look like fun and games where your child won't even realize it is exercise. *weights will not be incorporated. Kids should bring: athletic attire, sneakers and water.
Cupcake Decoration - Bilingual - Limited Seating - Sign up early - Suitable for all ages. Fee $3.00. CUPCAKE DECORATION IS NOW FULL AND CLOSED FOR ADDITIONAL REGISTRATIONS
Host: Alicia Nace & Brett Zuckerman - You can learn how to make beautiful and fun cupcakes. Mrs. Nace will be demonstrating how to make an adorable snowman cupcake as well as a colorful octopus cupcake. If you have an icing bag or tips you are welcome to bring them, but they are not necessary. Each participant will be able to design two cupcakes; one of each design.
Dance! Dance! Dance! Bilingual *Parents do not need to accompany their children to this workshop. Ages 5 - 12.
Host: Pawling High School Varsity Dance Team – Get your dance on! Students from the PHS Varsity Dance Team will work with children teaching dance moves and technique, including a short dance routine. Learn the latest Hip Hop moves as well as jazz and some classics too!
Design Your Own Denim - New for 2020 Ages 10 and up. Supply Fee: $3.00
Host: Nicol Furlong and Rachael Seitz - Bring in your own old denim item for a re-style using painting techniques and DIY distressed denim techniques.
Knitting Clinic Suitable for all ages, no fee (unless you need needles)
Hosts: Caroline Bennett & Terie Konchan - Get help with your own project, learn new techniques, or simply learn the basics of knitting. Bring your own needles if you have them, yarn is available. *Knitting needles will be available for purchase.
Lego Mania Always packed! Suitable for all ages.
Host: David Roberts - Got Legos? Bring your spare bricks. We’ll make new things, create new worlds, explore new territories, and build new empires. If anyone not attending the workshop would like to donate some of their old Legos, this group will put them to good use!
Make Your Own Rain Stick - A Latin American Percussion Instrument Bilingual New for 2020 - Ages 8 and Up - Materials Fee: $3.00
Hosts: Brianne Chasanoff & Mary Gardner In many cultures, summoning rain often included the use of musical instruments. One well-known example is a rain stick, an instrument that mimics the sound of rain. In this workshop, you will be given the tools and materials needed to make your very own Rain stick that sounds very realistic! You will also be given the opportunity to decorate it and take your creation home!
Marshmallow Creations New for 2020 Ages 5 & up, Supply Fee: $2.00
Host: Pawling Boy Scout Troop 34 This is a fun craft using toothpicks and marshmallows. The children can build different creations from animals to cars, trucks or even buildings using marshmallows and toothpicks.

Robot Obstacle Challenge Bilingual NEW for 2020! Suitable for ages 9 and up. No fee Robot Obstacle Challenge Is Now Full & Closed For Additional Registrations
Host: Stephen Malone - In this session, participants will use block-based code to program a Sphero robot to navigate obstacles in a room. No programming experience necessary - participants will learn the basics of block-based programming and will be able to get the robotic ball rolling in no time!
The Legend of Stone Soup Brought To Life with Children Bilingual Suitable for ages 5 – 9. (Session 2 only)
Host: Camille Ludington - Several local student actors and actresses will be portraying the characters in the book as Mrs. Ludington reads the story to all the Community Fest participants as they enjoy their soup. But we'll need some additional children to portray the townspeople in the story. This workshop will prepare the children for their performance on the Pawling Middle School stage at 8pm.
Valentine’s Day Crafts Bilingual All Ages - No fee
Hosts: PHS Seniors & Art Club Members Just in time for Valentine's Day, we'll be making valentine's cards and hearts. Each participant can make up to two valentines.
Yoga Suitable for all ages
Host: Julia Harrer will lead you in a short, 10-15 minute, traditional practice, incorporating surya namaskar (sun salutation) with a game or two to make it interesting and applicable off of the “mat”. Come connect with mind, body and spirit, along with community in a fun and lively atmosphere. Bring a mat if you have one. We’ll be able to provide one if you don’t.
